Give to support diversity in physiology!

Your support helps underrepresented minority trainees and early career investigators overcome the barriers they often face when pursuing a research career.

We are no longer accepting donations on this campaign, but there are other ways for you to support us today!

As a post-doc, Junie Paula Warrington received an APS Minority Travel Fellowship award that provided travel funds for her to attend the 2015 APS conference "Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolic Diseases: Physiology and Gender." She is now an assistant professor of neurology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

When asked about the impact of the award, Junie remarked:

"The Minority Travel Award program is an awesome program that should be continued. It provides great avenues for networking and allows students, postdocs and early career faculty an opportunity to attend meetings with little to no financial stress."

For many underrepresented minority (URM) trainees and early career researchers, like Junie, the primary barriers to participating in scientific meetings and conferences have been affordability and lack of access to a diverse group of mentors and peers.

As you likely know, participation in scientific meetings is critical to researchers' professional development, helping them develop professional networks that lead to future career opportunities. Thus, it remains critical that URMs receive the support they need to attend and engage with others at such meetings.

The APS Minority Travel Fellowship program helps overcome these barriers by providing travel fellowships to URMs to attend the Society's annual meeting and other conferences as well as mentoring activities that help them cultivate long-term relationships with other URM researchers.

With the help of members like you, APS has supported over 650 URMs to attend our meetings, which has fostered the development of a strong group of URM members working to inspire and support the next generation through their involvement in APS.

But, each year, we need your continued support to be able to offer such important travel awards. So, please consider a gift to APS diversity programs or another APS program today.
